World Book Day 2023

Northbury Primary School had a wonderful time celebrating world book day on Friday 3rd March 2023. It was amazing to see so many children and staff dressed up as their favourite book character.

The day was filled with lots of fun activities to celebrate books, authors and illustrators. Various year groups began the day with a whole school assembly to discuss world book day and announce the winners of the wooden spoon book character competition. The children then took part in guessing who our Masked Readers were, which proved to be very enjoyable for all involved! Throughout the day,  the children had an author visit delivered by Michael De Souza which was very interactive and they all enjoyed themselves.

Hopefully our World Book Day celebrations have inspired our pupils to spend their free book token on a book they will enjoy reading.

End Modern Slavery Day

On Friday 13th January, Northbury took part in End Modern Slavery Day. Throughout the day, pupils took part in a range of activities which raised awareness of modern slavery. These included lessons, assemblies with a special guest (Gordan Miller) and taking part in a cycling challenge. The fantastic day was run by Ride for freedom (Ride For Freedom - End Modern Slavery - Ride for Freedom). See below the video that Ride for Freedom have produced.

Modern Slavery Awareness Day at Northbury Primary School

This video captures the Ride For Freedom Modern Slavery Awareness Day at Northbury Primary School, Barking & Dagenham London. Across three assemblies, reaching approximately 700 pupils, the children learned about freedom, fairness, and exploitation, and how these concepts relate to modern slavery, through the lens of cycling.
